2: By mail, if eligible (read below for instructions)
Some drivers prefer to handle the renewal process by mail, rather than taking advantage of assistance services, visiting the DOR in person, or via available online services. Service by mail is available with limitations. Read below for additional details or visit your local DOR.
3: Via a local DOR office
If you prefer to access DOR services in person or your specific needs require an in-person visit, most, if not all, driver license services can be handled at a physical DOR office location. Varying DOR offices sometimes supply different types of services so you will need to check before your visit to make sure the DOR closest to you provides the service you require. In addition, you can call to see if your local DOR allows you to make a personal appointment. Read more below to see if an in-person visit is either preferred or required.
Renew Missouri Drivers Licenses
Drivers are divided into certain groups determining their license’s expiration. These specific age groups will dictate when a driver is due to renew.
- Between 18 and 20 years of age: The license expires on the applicant’s date of birth in the third year following the date of issue.
- Between 21 to 69 years of age: The licenseis valid for six years and expires on the applicant’s date of birth.
- Over the age of 70: The license expires on the applicant’s date of birth every three years.
Certain applicants will have to be tested before renewing their license. The test may include:
- Road sign test
- Vision test
Renewal notices are sent by postcard before your license expires. If you do not receive the notice, it is still mandatory for you to keep track of when to renew the Missouri drivers license in order to lawfully continue driving in Missouri.
Applicants who wish to renew their license via mail and who qualify may follow the following steps:
- Complete the drivers license renewal application form (Form 4371)
- Submit copies of military ID or military dependent ID
- Copies of proof of identity, residency, lawful presence.
- Proof of copies of name change (if applicable).

Renew Missouri Drivers License in Person
Applicants that wish to renew their license in person, and who qualify, may follow the following steps:
- Visit the DOR driver license office
- Pass road, written and vision test if license expired more than six months.
- Submit proof of identity, residency and lawful presence
- Pay the appropriate fees
The renewed Missouri driver’s license is issued on the same day.
If the Missouri driver’s license renewal applicant that has a license that has been expired for more than six months, they must:
- Renew Missouri drivers license in person
- Take the vision test
- Take the road sign test
- Take the driving sill test
- Take the written test
